Banks agree to help unemployed borrowers 8 January 2009
Under an agreement announced yesterday by the big four banks and the federal government, the banks will give repayment relief to borrowers who become unemployed. Customers may be able to postpone mortgage repayments for up to 12 months with the interest capitalised onto the amount outstanding. Banks have also agreed to consider interest only repayments and waiving fees for people in financial hardship.
