Shareholders in the major Australian banks could receive extra dividend payments in the next year. Credit Suisse says it has revised the outlook for banks with the rise in bad debts expected to peak one year earlier than previously assumed. That could mean that banks could be in a position to return surplus capital they have built up in recent times to their shareholders.Earnings per share are expected to increase by an average of 21 per cent across the big four banks. Commonwealth and Westpac are said to the most likely of the big four banks to pay a special dividend to shareholders.Currently Australian banks are among the best capitalised banks in the world.
