Buy a big block close to city
14 May 2010

Based on the current property market buying frenzy, it would be reasonable to expect that unless buyers have deep pockets, they can forget the idea of owning a large near-to-city home on a large block of land in virtually any of our capital cities. However, this is not necessarily the case. In fact, the latest research on large block housing by rpdata.com reveals there are 86 suburbs within 20km of the capital city CBD’s where the average land area is at least 1,000sqm; many of these suburbs are closer to the city centres than may be expected. According to rpdata.com national research director Tim Lawless, if buyers are willing to extend the distance of their search, excellent and affordable large block homes can still be found within the capital city metro areas. Lawless named ACT suburb of Fraser as a good example. Brisbane suburbs Capalaba also has large reasonably priced blocks. Hobart has the highest proportion of sales of homes on large blocks of land.
