Commonwealth still rules the roost

| Twenty six per cent of Australians name Commonwealth as their main bank, 15 per cent say Westpac, 14 per cent are with ANZ and 12 per cent with NAB. Eleven per cent said a regional bank, like Bank of Queensland. Bendigo was the main regional bank named by survey respondents, while the credit unions have ten per cent of the Australian bank market, according to survey results of 3,000 bank customers published by the Finance Sector Union.Millions of Australians never change their banks in their whole lifetime. Sixty per cent of Commonwealth Bank’s gigantic rusted on customer base have been with the bank for more than 10 years and are the least likely to ever change banks. One in every five of the customers of the other big four banks have been with their bank for more than 10 years. Changing mortgages can be particularly difficult, time consuming and costly but changing credit cards is easy - there is no excuse for anybody to remain with a credit card they are unhappy with say banking experts. |
