Consumer lending and delinquencies up for HSBC 5 August 2008
HSBC Australia reported a profit of US$100 million in the half year to June 2008, compared with US$51 million in the half year to June 2007. HSBC's consumer credit business has grown by 30 per cent in one year, while deposits increased by 34 per cent. Loan impairment charges increased by 83 per cent in Australia due to a rise in delinquencies on cards.
