More than half a million Queenslanders have provided their bank details to Medicare and are receiving their rebates directly into their bank account. However most are still doing the Medicare run around - collecting receipts, travelling to the nearest Medicare office and waiting in line for a cash rebate.There are two ways to avoid the Medicare run around – via the internet or by using a doctor that is signed up to rebate you directly via the Eftpos system.* For a patient the Eftpos option – called Easyclaim is the quickest and easiest way to bet rebated, but it is rare to find a doctor that wants to provide this service.* Providing your bank details to Medicare so they pay you via the internet is the next best option.“One in five patients are having their claim lodged and paid electronically either by EFTPOS or through a secure internet connection,” Medicare Australia Chief Executive Officer Lynelle Briggs said.“Most people find there are never enough hours in the day to finish everything they need to do, so any service that enables busy patients and busy practices to save time and effort is important,” Ms Briggs said.More than 1,500 Queensland doctors are now able to transmit electronic claims via MedicareOnline and Medicare Easyclaim but the rest - the majority - have so far ignored all attempts to persuade them to update to electronic claiming.
