Retail spending continues to grow according tot he Australian Bureau of Statistics, but by just 0.1 per cent by volume for the quarter to the end of September.Australian National Retailers Association chief Margy Osmond said yesterday there had now been six months of "grim" sales figures. Spending on restaurants and cafes is going backwards but people are continuing to spend on essentials such as groceries, meat, and fruit and vegetables. The weaker-than-expected shopping figures are expected to encourage the reserve Bank to make further cuts to interest rates.
