More three generation homes than ever before
20 August 2008

More homes are housing extended families as housing costs rise. More than 130,000 homes contain three or more generations according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics. 665,000 people live in those homes and are mostly grandparents living with children and grandchildren. One third contain members born outside Australia. Forty per cent of the grandparents need caring for. Many are single parents living with their parent(s). Many grandparents are working while their single parent child stays at home.
