Competition in the mortgage market has been ‘gone out the window’ thanks to the competition regulator’s decision to approve NAB’s takeover of the Challenger group, say mortgage brokers.Challenger’s mortgage broking platforms provide products and services to 5700 mortgage brokers across Australia.Mark Forsyth, managing director of Challenger competitor FirstFolio said “this and other mergers involving the big banks has set competition back 10 years.”ACCC chairman Graeme Samuel said brokers were free to switch to other broking platforms. “I don’t agree with the view that competition is shot for decades,” said Samuels.
