Qantas frequent flyer program members can now redeem their points for any seat on any flight, but the points themselves have a higher cost. The changes are part of a Qantas project to revamp the frequent flyer program to make it more attractive to members, who have been critical of the program's inability to provide seats on flights when requested by frequent flyer members. Forty per cent of the Qantas frequent flyer program was due to be floated on the ASX by Qantas in an IPO analysts said may be worth $800 million but those plans have been shelved as market conditions have deteriorated.
