ASIC is requesting an appeal against the leniency of the sentence handed down on Friday against former Westpoint salesman Neil Burnard. Burnard was sentenced to a 12 month good behaviour bond and fined $50,000. ASIC will request the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions (CDPP) consider lodging an appeal and placing Burnard on a custodial sentence. In May, Burnard was found guilty on nine criminal charges relating to six investors who were convinced to invest a total of $1.1 million in Westpoint mezzanine funds.
