Single aged pensioners received an increase of $29.10 per fortnight, while couples got about $44 extra.Ferguson said pension increases lagged six to nine months behind price and wage increases. “The pension really needs to be about 35 per cent of average male weekly earnings per cent to provide for a reasonable standard of living for the elderly.”
