A fake Westpac bank website is trying to convince customers to undergo a quick ‘identity check’ that will provide their personal details to a criminal gang. The fake website is believed to be hosted in Moscow.Australian Federal Police are currently attempting to have the site shut down. Emails are being sent from a server associated with the site. The emails ask Westpac customers to click on a web link to verify their identity. Westpac says any customers defrauded of money by the scam can get repaid.The bank is trying to identify customers who may have clicked on the links and is contacting those people and advising them to change their account numbers and passwords.
