The retirement age must be raised to 75 says the chairman of lobby group National Seniors. Everald Compton says because of increased life expectancy and a coming surge of baby boomer retirees, the government can no longer afford to support seniors from age 65. The group also wants an immediate lift in the single pension rate of $30 per week. The Combined Pensioners and Superannuants Association said the proposal to lift the retirement age would result in people working till their deathbeds.
