Suncorp pummelled by storms and markets 25 November 2008
Suncorp Managing Director John Mulcahy said the bank was dealing with the credit crunch much better than expected with bad debt provisioning rising less than the major banks. Suncorp has a $160 million exposure to failing investment house Babcock & Brown. Analysts expect bad debt charges to rise next year. Suncorp said it would pay out 13,000 insurance claims following last week's storms in southern Queensland. Suncorp shares dropped another 21 cents yesterday to close at $6.70.
