Super Visa debit card 11 May 2009 |
| |
| Have you ever been at the supermarket checkout and found yourself short of cash or, worse, had your card payment rejected? If only you could have pulled out a card that gives you access to your superannuation.Well, if you have an allocated pension from your super fund, that is exactly what you can now do.Jan Twite set up an allocated pension from her super fund and recently took up an offer to add on an account with a debit card. "I have used my super debit card to withdraw cash and to pay for everything from my local grocery shopping to paying my gas and phone bills online."Debit card access to superannuation works like having two bank accounts linked together. The person has their super in an allocated pension account, with whatever type of investment split they choose but their cash allocation is put in a linked cash account. This cash account is still in the name of the super fund and will still get the tax advantage on its earnings. However, the cash account also has a debt card attached to it so it can be used almost like an ordinary bank account to withdraw money at any time. |
