The federal government has backed down from plans announced last year to clamp down on eligibility for the seniors health care concession card for self funded retirees. The plan to include gross superannuation income in the income test for the card was to begin on July 1 but will now not proceed.Self funded retirees will effectively remain eligible to receive prescription medicines at reduced prices under the PBS, a discounted Medicare safety net threshold and concessional long distance rail travel.
