Westpac CEO under pressure over rate rises 14 December 2009
Westpac’s high profile chief executive officer Gail Kelly is under increasing scrutiny and criticism regarding her decision to raise rates on standard variable mortgages by 0.45 per cent, 0.20 per cent more than the Reserve bank raised the official cash rate.Analysts said Ms Kelly was a customer focused CEO at St George Bank but may have misjudged the mood of the market and government with the latest rate rise. Ms Kelly’s mandate at Westpac was to put the customer first and inject some dynamism into the bank.
