Submissions to the ACCC regarding Westpac's proposed merger with St George closed yesterday with the regulator expected to report by August 20. Westpac has small exposures to Collaterised Debt Obligations, AAA rated mortgage backed securities in the UK and troubled US mortgage banks. Commonwealth is expected to report cash profit up slightly to $4.7 billion. CBA has no sub-prime related US exposures but has money with troubled corporations Centro, ABC Learning and Allco Finance.
