All of St George Bank's 400 branches will remain open, even those in close proximity to Westpac branches and St George's expansion plans will be retained under the new ownership by Westpac. The combined operation formally begins trading today. Senior executives toured St George and Westpac branches that sit close together yesterday in a show of support. St George and Westpac customers have free access to 2,700 ATMs owned by the combined operation. Westpac will establish a separate board for St George as it reassures customers that the smaller bank will remain a stand-alone retail bank.
