Commonwealth Bank has made an offer of about $3 billion to buy BankWest from troubled UK bank HBOS. That offer does not include HBOS Australia's corporate lending and finance operation which is saddled with bad debts. The CBA offer is believed to have been rejected by HBOS. NAB and ANZ are also believed to be interested in making an offer for BankWest. ANZ and Commonwealth are also believed to be in negotiations to buy Queensland based Suncorp's banking operations.
